Atelier Cren by Nikki Honda
beware beware of the dangerous first course ball!! it looks small and innocent but is in fact deadly in its ability to embarrass the consumer and will cost all your pride and dignity!! when i grabbed the delicate liquid filled ball five minutes into sitting down at our table, i was surprised when it burst through my fingertips and sweet juice went all over my place at the table. lucky for me, three of the staff quickly ran over to clean up the mess i made and brought me a second ball for attempt number 2 - which confirmed the service was great!!
one of the things atelier crenn is known for is it's poetry filled "menu" in which each course is tied to a line of poetry outlined on the table. it was fun trying to guess what kind of dish would be coming out next based on the hints in each line of poetry.
some of my favorite dishes were the beet ceviche, custard pie slice, and fancy shaved ice with condensed milk for dessert! at the end of our savory courses, we took a tour through the kitchen and then we're brought into a cute library bar where we enjoyed the sweet courses accompanied by some coffee. overall an amazing and delicious experience, and definitely a well deserved spot on the list of Tommy Lee's Michelin Restaurant Tour.
